Gregory James Aziz is best known, today, for his leadership in the National Steel Car company; located in Canada. Born in London, Ontario in 1949. Mr. Aziz began his college career at Ridley College.      Tony Petrello is a chief executive officer in the Houston, Texas oil industry. Due to this they didn’t socialize much or do too much to help out around Houston, at least not as much as they would have liked to have done.

This all changed in 1997 when they had a daughter born prematurely. She was born at just 24 weeks and as a consequence she had PVL (periventricular leukomalacia) which is a result of the body not getting enough oxygen. This changed their outlooks on life dramatically. Tony Petrello said this awakened a desire in both of them to do what they could for other people. They wanted to understand what happened to their daughter and how she and other people with childhood neurological conditions could be helped. His research into cerebral palsy showed him that very little research was going on into it. He decided to change that and that and donated $7 million to Texas Children’s Hospital where they are now doing research into cerebral palsy.

After Hurricane Harvey, Tony Petrello’s employees fanned out over the Gulf Coast to help people. He sent out an email telling everyone they were getting paid time off for this. They also raised almost $175,000 to help out, which he matched. He also helped feed local families by opening up his company’s kitchen to them.

He is a graduate of Yale. When one of his college mentors, Professor Serge Lang, passed away a few years ago he gave $150,000 to an endowment fund in Lang’s name. Once he saw how generous other alums on this college were in giving to this endowment fund he put in an additional $150,000 so that future students at this school could be financially supported.

     Alexandre Gama’s career has been quite the ride for the Brazilian entrepreneur and advertising genius. It all began after graduating from the heralded Armando Alvares Penteado Foundation (FAAP) in 1982. After working his tail off as a copywriter for nearly 15 years, he was awarded by being named as the CEO/COO of Young & Rubicam 1996. In 1999 Gama left to start his own agency that he named Neogama. Ever since, Gama has mad a name for himself as one of the world’s most creative advertising minds.

His company has won an astonishing 23 Golden Lions over the past 20 years at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2014, Gama was asked by the Brazilian Art Museum to show his work in an exhibition. This exhibition was on display at the museum for 60 days and made him a household name. As an investor, Gama has become a minority shareholder in the Briggs Automotive Company, an English automaker of expensive sports cars.

AIA Appoints New Executive Vice President

     The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has appointed Robert Ivy as its new executive vice president. AIA is an organization charged with the responsibility of licensing architects across the country. It was founded in 1857 and has its headquarters in Washington DC. Mr. Ivy’s appointment comes at a time when the organization is seeking to diversify its operations and partner with sectors not necessarily within the building and design industry. AIA aims at ensuring that it provides proper guidelines about design and construction in the country as well as making sure that all practicing architects are licensed.

Robert Ivy is not new to in the architectural world; he is currently the chief editor of Architectural Record where he has been in the position since 1996. Besides, he is also the Vice President of McGraw Hill-Construction which is responsible for managing family publications in the design and construction industry. Before moving into the corporate world, Robert Ivy was a managing partner with Dean/Dale and principle with Ivy Architects for over 14 years. He is also a recipient of the 2009 Crane Awards which is one of America’s top awards organized by the media industry to recognize to contributors in business reporting.

As the New Executive Vice President, Mr. Ivy will be in charge of the main office at Washington DC. The office has an annual budget of $56 million with over 200 employees. His main task will be to give the institution a clear direction regarding practice and design issues. Ivy will also be responsible for coordinating with over 300 chapters of AIA across the United States and overseas and ensure that they get the necessary support from the organization. AIA Board of Directors has confidence that the new Executive Vice President will use his experience to steer the organization towards the right direction.

Former AIA president, Mr. George H. Miller expressed his joy after the new appointment. “We are excited to see Mr. Ivy as our new Executive Vice President, we believe that his experienced as a practicing architect and leadership positions in the variously related organization will help the organizations attain its objective,” said Miller. On his part, Clark Manus the FAIA 2011 president said that AIA had undergone financial challenges in the past few years and that he was confident Mr. Ivy’s appointment was timely.

Mr. Ivy went to the University South Tennessee for his bachelor degree and obtained his master’s degree in Architecture at Tulane University, Louisiana.

American Institutes of Architects Has Built Up the Architecture Profession

     As the leading professional organization for the architecture profession, the American Institute of Architects represents and advocates on behalf of architects. The organization also helps promote architectural education and fosters relationships with the public as well as with other professions and trades.

The AIA has its origins in a meeting of thirteen architects who sought to create a professional association for the profession. Founded in New York in 1857, AIA was founded in part to regulate the quality of architectural services, as as the time architecture was entirely unregulated and anyone could hire themselves out as a professional architect no matter their qualifications or experience.

For over a century, the American Institute of Architects has presided over the growth of the profession, with three hundred active chapters throughout the country. Although all licensed architects can become professional members, only a few carry the distinction of “Fellow.” In fact, just 2% of the membership has been recognized with this honor.

One fellow of the American Institute of Architects is Robert Ivy. Appointed in 2011, Robert Ivy is the current CEO and Vice President of the AIA. Although his undergraduate degree is in English, Ivy attended architecture school at Tulane University, graduating in 1979. He soon worked his way through the ranks of the profession, becoming a well-regarded architect and critic, and eventually becoming editor-in-chief of Architectural Record. Under Robert Ivy’s aegis, the publication became an industry standard, winning a number of editorial and industry-specific awards.
