The planned research center will be known as the “Urban Smart Logistics Institute” and will focus on a lot of different areas such as cloud computing platforms, urban logistics systems, and big data among others. The founders of the institute include many leaders in technical education such as Nankai University, Shanghai Maritime University, and Beijing Wuzi University.
One of the main logistical issues that JD.com is addressing is the contribution of freight vehicles. While they may be able to transport large amounts of goods, the traffic emissions caused have a bigger impact on the environment than other methods.
